AUTORES DESTACADOS DE LA LINGüÍSTICA
LINGUISTICS
John L. Austin

John Langshaw Austin (1911-1960) was a British philosopher of language, best-known for his individualistic analysis of human thought, derived his writings from the study of ordinary language. Austin was a teacher of Moral Philosophy at Oxford and prominent in the study of everyday language. He produced one major work, How to Do Things with words. He was born in Lancaster and educated at Shrewsbury School and at Balliol College, Oxford University.

Andrés Bello
Andrés de Jesús María y José Bello López  (1781- 1865)  was a Venezuelan humanist, poet, lawmaker, philosopher, educator and philologist, whose political and literary works constitute an important part of Spanish American culture. One of the foremost intellectual figures during the Spanish-American wars of independence and the subsequent formation of Latin American nations, Bello produced works in a variety of genres, including literature, philosophy, political writings, and civil law. An editor, teacher, politician, and formulator of a Latin American grammar, Bello is credited with giving life to the “americanismo” movement and inspiring Latin Americans to celebrate their independence and freedom in the wake of Spanish colonialism.

(1902-1976) Was a French, eminent Iranist  and one of the greatest linguists of his era. He was born at Aleppo and studied in Paris. His biography is entirely bound up in the stages of his career as a scholar. At a very young age he caught the attention of the dean of linguistics in France, Antoine Meillet, and was soon engaged in the research activities that he was to pursue through half a century with exceptional productivity.

Leonard Bloomfield

(April 1, 1887 – April 18, 1949) was an American linguist who led the development of structural linguistics in the United States during the 1930s and the 1940s. His influential textbook Language, published in 1933, presented a comprehensive description of American structural linguistics.  He made significant contributions to Indo-European historical linguistics, the description of Austronesian languages, and description of languages of the Algonquian family.

LENGUAJE

LANGUAGE
Language is the most important aspect in the life of all beings.

We use language to express inner thoughts and emotions, make sense of complex and abstract thought, to learn to communicate with others, to fulfill our wants and needs, as well as to establish rules and maintain our culture.

Language can be defined as verbal, physical, biologically innate, and a basic form of communication.
When we define language we have to be careful not to exclude symbols, gestures,or motions.

UNIT 3

SUBSISTEMAS LINGUISTICOS

  • Fonética , los sonidos de la humana voz , incluyendo su producción fisiológica, propiedades acústicas, la percepción auditiva y el estado neurofisiológico;
  • Sintaxis , los principios y normas para la construcción de las frases , cláusulas , y similares en las lenguas humanas;
  • Semántica , el significado contenido de las palabras, frases u otros elementos del lenguaje;

LINGUISTICS SUB-SYSTEMS
In linguistics, languages are often studied in terms of six major subsystems, which relate to major subfields within linguistics. In addition, particular subfields of linguistic inquiry may divide their subject matter into more specific subsystems. This list contains links to commonly studied language subsystems.
The linguists recognize languages seven principal subsystems:
  • Phonetics, the sounds of the human voice, including his physiological production, acoustic properties, the auditory perception and the neurophysiological condition.
  • Phonology, the systematic use of sound to codify the meaning of any spoken human language (natural language or constructed language)
  • Morphology, the structure of significant units of a language, as the words and affixes.
  • Syntax, the beginning and procedure for the construction of the phrases, clauses, and similar in the human languages.
  • Semantics, the meaning contained of the words, phrases or other elements of the language.
  • Pragmatics, the form in which the context contributes to the sense in the use of the natural language, and Lexicology, the study.

This division changes among the linguists and the authors. For example, the phonetics and the phonology in occasions combine in a subsystem. Morphology and lexicology also can combine.
